The nice lady at Yell.com explained that the video they prepared for us last year is ours to do what we want with, and so here's an early Christmas present: it's hardly The Sound of Music, but then there's only so much doh-ray-me-far-so-la-tee-doh that a body can take :-)

December is here and the rush up to Christmas is upon us. If you are off visiting family and friends over the holiday period you might consider a quick 'Winter Check' to make sure you are fit for your journey.
Winter Check's include lights, levels, check of tyre depths and condition, battery and charging, antifreeze strength and wiper blades. Takes about half an hour and can be done while you wait all for £22.50 plus V.A.T.

We are 21!

On the 12 March 1991 we opened our doors for the first time so we have just passed the major milestone of our 21st Birthday. We were so busy through March this event passed largely unnoticed!

After realising, we had a rummage round and found some old photos of the opening day and a few others besides from our 21 years. These have been posted on our Facebook page. There are some interesting outfits and James has hair. How times change!

We opened up with a blessing of the Anvil, a traditional Blacksmiths ceremony in honour of James family Blacksmith heritage. Good to take a look back and remember all our staff, customers and off the wall projects over the years. Many thanks to everyone who has supported us in any way shape or form. You are much appreciated.

Diversity

Its M.O.T. reminder time. Every month we like to try and get reminders out to customers who have M.O.T's due. On doing this task you realise what a wide range of different cars we see. We might be Citroen specialists but we really do 'do any car'.

This month alone due for M.O.T. we have many Citroen's, a Berlingo, a couple of Xsara's, a C2, a C6, a handful of Picasso's, a C3, a C4, an AX and a Xantia or two but also we have a Peugeot 307 and a 206, a Seat Ibiza, a Volxwagen Golf and a Polo, an Iveco Daily, a Toyota Celica, a Vauxhall Astra and Corsa, a Renault Scenic, a Volvo V70, a Saab 93, a Nissan Almera, a Landrover Discovery and a Honda CRV to name a few!

Just a little snapshot for you. Two of our Customers cars waiting outside for jobs to be done. Perhaps one extreme to the other. We can fix anything!

Electronics

Vehicle electronics are becoming increasingly complex. Where once you only had to turn a key and off you go, cars now have their very own brain running all sorts of sensors and automatic functions.

Do you remember you used to have to wind your own windows down and didn't need your car to tell you you hadn't shut the door or put your seat belt on! Its all very well and good, but the price paid is that if things go wrong, they can go wrong quite spectacularly and can cause major problems with finding the fault.

We have all the up to date equipment for fault finding but often it is not a straight forward as plugging in and being told what the problem is. A great deal of electronics skill is required to read the car and trace the fault and it can be very time consuming and frustrating as the fault is sometimes very well hidden. Things are moving at a fast pace in vehicle technology and James has headed off to Chester this morning for a 2 day course in Electronics for a bit of an update as this seems to be an area we are increasingly getting involved in. Im sure he will return refreshed and brimming with lots of new knowledge.

Annual M.O.T. Test news

Plans to change the annual M.O.T. test and make it bi-annual and moving the first M.O.T. to 4 years old instead of 3 have been scrapped by the Government last week.
According to V.O.S.A 20% of cars and light commercial vehicles fail their first M.O.T. which is due when the vehicle is 3 years old, this potentially could double if the first M.O.T. was at 4 years old.
Many vehicles on the road do not get serviced at regular intervals, hence the only time a vehicle gets checked for 'roadworthness' is at its annual M.O.T. time when any dangerous faults get rectified. We here at Car Clinic welcome this decision.

http://www.pro-mote.org.uk/

We realise the annual M.O.T. can be a worry and we try to make the process as painless as possible. We can make you an appointment at a time to suit you. It takes about an hour to do and you are quite welcome to stay and have a nice cup of tea or coffee whilst you wait. Our M.O.T's here are completely independent from us. When we moved to our current workshops we found a great M.O.T. centre virtually next door so it seemed sensible to use the services of our neighbour to provide our customers with a completely impartial test.
Our M.O.T price is currently £40.00.

New web site progress.

New look site ready for blast off onto the Internet. Give it a day or so and things should happily settle into their new home on the world wide web and we will be accessible from our usual web address.

The Cyber Car Clinic

No, nothing to do with the silver-suited arch villains of decades of Doctor Who episodes, but a new way to keep in touch with your favourite motor service centre.

We got tired of out-of-date websites that needed a degree in computer sciences just to change a date, and so followed Andre Citroen's lead, binned convention and are doing it the right way (other vehicles are available).

Granted, it's not as original as front wheel drive in a pre-war saloon, radial tyres, oleopneumatic suspension or steering wheels with a single spoke, but it allows us to do what we want to do in the way we'd prefer to do it: keep in touch with you, and prompt you through the change in the seasons.

If you know how all this stuff works, you'll be familiar with the orange RSS feed icon at the bottom left-hand side of the screen, which will alert you to changes in the site ... and if you don't, find a ten year old and ask them very nicely :-)
